According to two former classmates, the perpetrator “… was suspended during their junior year at suburban Bellbrook High School after a ‘hit list’ was found scrawled in a school bathroom. That followed an earlier suspension after [the perpetrator] came to school with a list of female students he wanted to sexually assault …” Another former classmate, who was apparently one of the girls the perpetrator had targeted, stated, “It’s baffling and horrible that somebody who’s been talking for 10 years about wanting to shoot people could easily, so easily, get access to a military grade weapon and that much ammo.” However, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said “There’s nothing in this individual’s record that would have precluded him from getting these weapons.” In addition, another classmate said [the perpetrator] “that I knew was a nice kid,” and a customer where the perpetrator used to work stated he, “Was the nicest kid you could imagine. 1 Nothing else identifiable to date could have prevented this incident. . However, we do wonder if he was spurred into action by the mass shooting at a Walmart Supercenter in El Paso, Texas,  just 13 hours prior. Source(s): 1.
