Takeaway(s):
—Another disturbing case where the perpetrator exhibits his intentions for all to see but not a blessed thing is done.
—A commercial establishment that apparently put the chance to make a sale (and undoubtedly a profit) ahead of doing what was right for society.
—When parents, biological or foster, and other caregivers, fail to do their job society is in peril. Such was the case in this case. When your charge is a basket case it’s your responsibility to provide help for him and/or seek help for him of which there’s plenty available. In this case that didn’t happen.
Incident Preventable Factor(s):
—Behavioral Red Flags Ignored/Response Delayed – Perpetrator(s) Expressed Suicidal Ideation and/or Suicide by Police and/or Expressed Violent Intentions Privately and/or Publicly in Person and/or In Any Medium:
In a somewhat veiled way, the perpetrator, expressed his desire to kill. For instance, the month before the incident he posted a photo of a shirt with the words “Born to Kill” on his Facebook page. Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated “Not only did he want to commit the shooting, but he wanted to commit suicide after the shooting, planned on doing this for some time. He advertised his intentions but somehow slipped through the cracks”. 1
—Commercial Establishment Failure – Commercial Establishment Failure:
The perpetrator “… ordered 50 rounds of hollow-point handgun ammunition and 105 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition from the website Luckygunner.com. Two weeks later, he purchased 35 additional rounds of shotgun ammunition from the same website … .” 2 This is deemed blatant and therefore the ranking points have been doubled.
—Unnecessarily Accessible Perpetrator(s) Weapon(s) – Weapon(s) Was Unnecessarily Accessible to the Perpetrator:
[The perpetrator] had access to guns through his father. This is deemed blatant and therefore the ranking points have been doubled. 1
Editor Note:
So called responsible adults freely gave this minor the guns and the ammunition to perpetuate this incident.
