We’ve devoted hundreds of hours of our time pouring over the facts of incidents in the fleeting hope we can learn something about what caused them and pass that knowledge on to you.
Not surprisingly, we didn’t learn much.
These things we call incidents are complicated–they’re time sensitive, variable laden, and all too often devoid of the facts that make sense of them. You can’t draw a conclusion when there’s nothing to draw from.
So what, if anything, did we learn. Not much.
But we’ll share you what we did find.
1. The gun laws in the United States are a major contributor that allows perpetrators to carryout their dastardly deeds. But we can’t change that. Simply put, we’re already all in. In other words, principally via the Second Amendment push, lots of guns are here, and here to stay for the foreseeable future. Simply put, as much as we can blame guns for helping to perpetrate incidents, we have no chance whatsoever or neutralizing that factor. End of story.
2. Mentally ill people, or people with mental health issues, or whatever, (it’s just semantics), are very prone to committing incidents. But in a country that is “the land of the free” we can’t, more often than not, do anything about their craziness, at least until it’s too late. End of story.
3. We increasingly live in a society that doesn’t dot the “i’s” and cross the “t’s” to the degree we used to. Younger people, brought up in far lesser times, are now wielding data and/or are our decision makers.
The list goes on.
So then, what’s the answer.
Well, not the one some of you want to hear.
Based on our thousands of hours of meticulous research, pouring over mass shooting after mass shooting, looking for a common denominator(s), we’ve arrived at only one: Guns. That’s right. We need good guys with guns everywhere. Sometimes, and this appears to be one of those times, you can only fight fire with fire. With everything that has been thrown at us in modern history, and not so modern history, we’ve fought back with what makes sense to counter the menace. Most often we’ve won. Most recently, the answer to stopping COVID-19 was a vaccine. Now, the answer to stopping mass shootings is for lots of good guys to have guns.
Our relentless research of ways to prevent incidents is ongoing, and if we find a better way to counter them you’ll be the first to know, but for now, work towards packing some heat.
